Fireworks Safety According to the latest research conducted in 2011 by the Consumer Products Safety Commission:

• Only 3% of fireworks injuries were attributed to public displays.

• During the month surrounding the Fourth of July, an average of 200 people per day went to the emergency room with fireworks-related injuries.

• Sparklers caused 17% of all fireworks injuries, and firecrackers caused 13%.

• The tip of a sparkler burns at 1,200 degrees or hotter ? glass melts at only 900 degrees.

• Nearly half (46%) of fireworks injuries occur to hands and fingers, and 17% to the eyes.

• More than half of all fireworks injuries are burns.
