3/7/2012 - Aon offers recommendations to businesses so they can increase their security

Businesses should ensure their online data is secure.

Risk Privacy Day is an annual event that businesses observe in an effort to improve their everyday functions, especially as it regards cyber data security. To help businesses achieve this, Aon Risk Solutions recently provided entrepreneurs with a few suggestions that can help safeguard their data.

The source says an ideal way of doing this is by establishing a data security team that can better assess information technology systems and what gaps need to be filled.

Once these are isolated, Aon says the security team should develop a data protection plan that addresses where threats may arise, such as social networking sites or emails that have viruses attached.

Aon also advises business owners to make sure there are control systems in place for the company's software, as a data breach could adversely impact the company's function.

"New risks …  are emerging faster than most policies and IT departments can keep up," said Kevin Kalinich, global practice leader of cyber insurance for Aon. "Organizations that think their network could never be a penetrable target need to think again."
