2/16/2012 - What is general liability insurance?

Business owners could be liable for falls on their property.

Accidents happen … and people can be injured or their property damaged at the businessowners' location as a result of the owner’s business operations. Occasionally, these injuries may be so significant that the injured may sue the owner of the business to make them pay for the medical costs needed to treat the injury.

General liability insurance serves as businessowners' protection from these types of scenarios. As a general definition, if someone sustains bodily injury while on a businessowner's premises, the policy will give them the funds they need to pay for the medical costs as well as any court fees.

Occasionally, general liability is a supplement of a standard business insurance policy, but some insurers require it to be purchased separately.
