7/24/2014 - 'Greenest' Cars of 2014

This year's Kelley Blue Book outlines the greenest cars on the market today.

There are several advantages to "going green" by buying a fuel-efficient vehicle, not the least of which is the fact that owners can spend less on gas, while at the same time being mindful of the environment thanks to cleaner emissions.

Due to their growing popularity, there are an assortment of green vehicles to choose from. Recently, automotive valuation firm put together a list of what it considers to be the 10 best green cars of 2014, which car buyers may want to consult if they're in the market to purchase a new automobile.

The "best of the best" for fuel-efficient vehicles this year is the BMW i3, KBB.com indicated.

Jack Nerad, executive director and market analyst for the Irvine, Calif.-based vehicle valuation company, noted that the German built car has more than a few bells and whistles that make it worthy of KBB.com's recommendation and No. 1 distinction.

"Built at an ecologically friendly plant, the i3 is offered in all-electric and gasoline-assisted range-extender versions, and it features an ultra-light carbon-fiber body to help squeeze maximum range from its battery pack," said Nerad. "Its interior boasts plenty of recycled materials and door panels formed from visible natural fibers."

As noted, this year's list was put together not only based upon fuel-efficiency, but also how the automobiles were manufactured in terms of responsible production and overall recyclability.

Other green cars making this year's list included the Nissan Leaf, Toyota Prius, Honda Accord Hybrid and Tesla Model S. Rounding out the top 10 were the Chevrolet Volt, Ford C-Max Hybrid, Honda Civic CNG, Lexus ES 300h and Volkswagen Jetta TDI.

California is teeming with individuals who have adopted a green mindset, as a substantial number of motorists in the Golden State shop for them, according to vehicle information company Cars.com.

You may be able to take advantage of special discounts on auto insurance by insuring a fuel-efficient vehicle. For additional details, speak with a Selective agent in your area.
