5/12/2011 - 2011's most fuel-efficient vehicles

The Ford Focus landed on Kelley Blue Book’s list of most fuel-efficient vehicles.

Auto insurance companies may soon see a spike in certain green cars being insured, as Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says there are a number of gas-sipping models this year.

Some of the models KBB recommends are the 2012 Ford Focus, the 2011 Nissan Leaf and the 2011 Toyota Prius.

The surging cost of gasoline inspired the car review website's release of what it considers to be 2011's most fuel-efficient vehicles, but so did the increase in green car options.

"The sheer number and types of choices in the green cars category have grown remarkable in the last year," said Jack Nerad, executive market analysts for Kelley Blue Book. "Whether drivers are looking to be more environmentally friendly or seeking to save cash at the gas pump or both, the latest Top 10 Green Cars list from offers a variety of choices to suit drivers' various wants and needs."

The cost of gasoline has risen dramatically over the past several months, with some states averaging more than $4 a gallon. Some industry analysts say prices could rise to $5 per gallon by Memorial Day.
