5/7/2012 - Restaurant industry adds half a million jobs in two years

Restaurants have added many new jobs.

A recent report suggests the restaurant industry has been one of the biggest contributors to the job market's recovery.

According to the National Restaurant Association, restaurants have added in excess of 560,000 jobs since the beginning of the employment recovery, 200,000 of which have been created in the past six months.

Dawn Sweeney, president and CEO of the National Restaurant Association, said restaurateurs have been a crucial part to the nation's economic recuperation.

"The restaurant industry strongly contributes to the health of our nation's economy by driving job growth across industry segments, and providing rewarding career and employment opportunities for millions," said Sweeney. "Whether in the kitchen or the corporate office, restaurants offer a variety of career paths, including one toward the American Dream of entrepreneurship and owning your own business."

The National Restaurant Association also noted that restaurant employment has outpaced overall job growth for 13 straight years.

With many eating and drinking places operating at their peak, restaurateurs may want to make sure they have a sufficient amount of businessowners insurance so they can recover quickly should they be forced to close due to a weather-related disaster or fire.

Selective’s program for restaurants offers a wide array of coverages to meet your specific needs, with many of the coverages built in at no additional cost. To learn more, click here or contact your Selective agent for more information.
