3/9/2012 - Tips for reviewing insurance plans
According to a poll conducted by consumer review website Angie's List, 96% of homeowners have homeowners insurance
. Of this percentage, approximately one-third say it's been at least two years since they reviewed their plan to make sure it was still sufficient.
With this in mind, Angie's List spoke to several insurance agents about what consumers should do to make sure they have the right amount of coverage.
One of the most important things to do is to have plans reviewed every year, agents tell the source. Especially if there's been any remodeling work or additions made to the house, such as pools, policyholders should ensure they carry adequate general liability insurance for potential risks.
Agents also tell Angie's List that it's important to look into the specifics of the policy, as plans may only cover certain weather-related events. For instance, coverage for floods requires a separate policy.
Policyholders should also brush themselves up on what they're entitled to receive should they ever file a claim. Experienced agents should be able to inform consumers of this and help them with the process.
