7/25/2012 - Are the neighbors prepared for a hurricane?
Even though hurricane season may be well underway, homeowners and renters are still at risk for being affected by adverse weather conditions. As such, NeighborWorks America is reminding them to be on guard and mindful of fellow members of their community.
Eileen Fitzgerald, CEO of the community development organization, indicated homeowners should not only ensure that they themselves are sufficiently prepared, but their neighbors as well.
"Particularly during times of severe weather, neighbors should look out for each other and practice a sense of community," said Fitzgerald.
She added that neighbors who are infirm or aging ought to be of particular concern, as they may not be able to take the proper courses of action that will help mitigate any serious issues. For example, do they have plenty of food and water on standby? Have they reviewed their homeowners or renters' insurance policy so that they know they are covered if a storm causes damage? Do they have an evacuation plan? These are just some of the questions to ask.
