3/4/2014 - Poll indicates Tuesday top day for work productivity
With many workers experiencing a case of the Monday morning blues after a fun-filled weekend, the second day of the work week tends to be the one where employees are at their best, according to a new poll.
Approximately four in 10 human resources managers in a recent survey pointed to Tuesday as the most productive day of the week for company employees, staffing services firm Accountemps reported. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given that it's just before the traditional off period, Friday was deemed the least productive, with only 3% of HR managers saying they thought it was the day of the week where their staff was the most prolific.
Max Messmer, chairman of the Menlo Park, Calif.-based job services firm, noted that besides the weekend hangover that many people experience on Mondays, some employees also devote the first day of the work week to catching up on what they didn't finish the week prior.
"On Tuesday, employees may begin to have time to focus on individual tasks and become more productive," said Messmer. "The goal should be to maintain the positive momentum established on Tuesday throughout the week."
To help staff make every day as fruitful as Tuesday, Accountemps recommended that small business owners and employees create their own to-do list right when they get into the office, then check off the tasks that are completed as necessary. It also advised managers to be careful not to put too much on one's plate all at once, as quality is often preferred to quantity.
In general, workplaces that offer employees a relaxed, friendly and safe work environment tend to be more productive. Therefore it is important businessowners focus to keep their employees happy and implement safety protocols to prevent employee injury or illness, resulting in a workers' compensation claim.
