7/15/2013 - Summertime headaches and how to avoid them

There are certain methods businessowners should take to reduce and prevent headaches.

There are few better ways to enjoy the summer than by scheduling an outdoor office party under the summer sun. But as people with migraines well understand, staying outdoors for long periods of time can trigger painful headaches.

Before making plans for an outdoor party, business owners may want to take the following tips provided by the National Headache Foundation into consideration so that everyone can enjoy the day without having to worry about the potential for getting sick as a result of pounding head pain.

For example, if the company is planning to provide the food, be careful what items are selected. It may be tempting to purchase items that no one has tried before, but it also may behoove the party's organizer to buy food that's fairly routine. However, be cognizant as certain preservatives can precipitate a migraine. Even common summer fare - like hot dogs and deli meats - have migraine-inducing additives like monosodium glutamate, NHF notes.

In short, it may be a good idea to take a poll to know who is going to the outdoor office party so the organizer can be aware of what foods to avoid buying and ultimately so that everyone has something they can enjoy.

Businessowners insurance should always be reviewed now and again. But it's a particularly good time to take a look at the policy before an office gathering to guard against potential liability issues that could result, such as if someone is injured while playing a game of volleyball, for example.
