12/3/2013 - Study: Northeast recycling centers most productive
When it comes to the region of the country whose recycling centers are booming, the Northeast stands above the rest, a new study suggests.
Specifically, the states of Connecticut, New Jersey, Vermont and Delaware produce the most revenue for recycling centers in the U.S. - taking population into account - according to business intelligence website SizeUp.
"We were interested to see that states in the Northeastern U.S. have the most successful recycling centers," said Antatalio Ubalde. "Since many recycling centers make money through government contracts, our list is one measure of each state's level of commitment to sustainability programs."
Iowa, Illinois, Arkansas, Oregon, Kentucky and Washington rounded out the 10 states where recycling centers were the most abundant in recyclables, based on the amount of cans, bottles and paper goods received in the respective areas as well as per capita revenue.
