5/25/2011 - String of tornadoes to affect Tennessee Valley
The plains have received their fair share of severe weather in recent days, and according to meteorologists, Mother Nature is showing no signs of letting up.
Accuweather reported recently that the Tennessee Valley was due to receive a nasty string of tornadoes that could potentially lead to the loss of life and property. Heather Buchman, a meteorologist for Accuweather.com, said the effects could be devastating.
"If strong tornadoes like this hit any populated area, they could result in complete destruction," Buchman said.
In addition to tornadoes, Accuweather meteorologists warned Tennesseans of torrential downpours, violent lightning strikes, hail the size of golf balls and the potential for flooding.
Every year, the Insurance Information Institute keeps track of the number of home insurance claims companies receive as a result of severe weather. Should the severe weather pattern that's affected a large portion of the country continue, 2011 could be a record year for insurance claims.
