8/22/2011 - Making sure a pool has the proper insurance coverage

Those with a pool should review their insurance coverage.

The country has seen record high temperatures this year, leaving many homeowners lounging in their pools to escape the heat. As a result, the Insurance Information Institute says it may be an ideal time to make sure your pool has the proper insurance coverage.

"Pools offer a great way to keep cool in this heat and humidity, but they can also be dangerous," said Jeanne M. Salvatore, senior vice president and consumer spokesperson for III. "A child can drown in a few inches of water in less than 30 seconds." With drowning as the second-leading cause of death for children between the ages of 1 and 14, homeowners should consider increasing their liability coverage in case there is an accident.

Selective’s personal umbrella insurance can help provide extra liability protection beyond what your auto or homeowners insurance provides…which may include your pool.
