4/10/2012 - Chrysler to recall Jeep models
American automaker Chrysler is set to recall close to 210,000 sport-utility vehicles due to corrosion issues that could ultimately lead to accidents.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Chrysler is conducting a safety recall of 209,724 Jeep Liberty SUVs - model years 2004 and 2005 - due to reports that some of the vehicles have high levels of rust. The belief is that if the rusting is left alone, the corrosion could cause the vehicle's rear suspension system to break, perhaps leading to drivers losing control of their car.
The report noted that Chrysler has received 83 complaints pertaining to the rusting issue but there have been no reported instances of accidents stemming from the corrosion.
The recall is confined to the East and Midwest sections of the United States, including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Missouri, the safety agency reports.
