10/6/2011 - John Deere recalls more than 15,000 mowers
Approximately 15,500 riding mowers are being recalled by John Deere due to a problem with the mowers' braking system.
According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the recall concerns John Deere riding mowers with model numbers D100, D110, D120 and D130. Reportedly, the hardware that's used to hold the mower blades in place can break after prolonged use. As a result, if the blades are on, they can spin longer than normal, posing a potential laceration hazard for riders.
The CPSC said the riding mowers in question are sold at Lowe's and Home Depot stores throughout the country and have a 42-inch Edge Cutting System mower deck. Further, the lawn tractors are green with yellow seats and mower decks.
Individuals or businessowners, such as landscaping businesses who often use this type of mower, should stop operating them immediately and contact John Deere directly at 800-537-8233 so it can be repaired.
