COMMERCIAL LINES PROPERTY COVERAGES
Below is some general information about commercial property insurance policies – Commercial Property, Commercial Output, or Businessowners – and coverages for COVID-19-related business impacts:
- Every claim is evaluated on its specific facts and the specific policy’s terms, conditions, limitations, and exclusions. If you have a COVID-19-related claim, you may report the claim: (1) on your Selective mobile app, (2) on www.Selective.com, (3) by phone at 866-455-9969, or (4) by contacting your agent.
- Generally speaking, viruses like COVID-19, do not directly cause physical loss or damage to property. Our commercial property policies cover (i) direct physical loss or damage to covered property that is (ii) caused by a covered cause of loss. Similarly, business income losses must be caused by direct physical loss or damage to certain property by a covered cause of loss.
- Further, our commercial property policies typically exclude coverage for loss or damage caused by or resulting from any virus that could or does induce physical distress, illness, or disease – which does include COVID-19.
- Your policy may have provided limited coverage for Food Contamination Shutdown, Communicable Disease Extra Expense, or Temporary Room Vacancy Income. To understand if you had these coverages on your policy please check your policy, ask your agent, or contact our Service Center.
- For current customers who have started delivery service for your business, as a result of any governmental directive, we can help you understand and insure this additional but temporary exposure. Contact your agent or a Selective customer service representative to discuss your coverage options. Coverage under your Commercial Auto policy will be excess of your employee driver’s personal auto insurance.
